Meet NEW IT Alliance Member UW Oshkosh
Member Spotlight | UW Oshkosh
As the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh representative on the NEW IT Alliance, I am happy to see the growth in visibility and participation of the Alliance that has occurred over the last several years. The role that UW Oshkosh plays in this growth is primarily as an educational resource to the broader IT community in Northeastern Wisconsin and beyond. As a comprehensive university, the goal of educating students focuses on several broad areas that include critical and creative thinking, teamwork and problem solving, and skills for life-long learning.
What We Offer
While incorporating these foci, UW Oshkosh offers training in several IT fields that can lead to Bachelor of Science (BS) or Master of Science (MS) degrees. The College of Business (COB) offers a BS in Information Systems which prepares students to create, deploy and manage information systems to integrate all aspects of a business. Students can develop specialized skills based on their career interests by choosing among several emphases. In the College of Letters and Science (COLS) the Computer Science department offers a BS in which students can specialized in a Computer Science emphasis or a Software Development emphasis.
A joint effort between the COB and COLS has created the opportunity for student to receive a BS or Business BS in Interactive Web Management, which blends facets of marketing, information systems, journalism, and computer science.
In addition, UW Oshkosh is a collaborative partner with several other UW System institutions in an online MS degree in Data Science. Student in this program learn to analyze and interpret data and communicate those findings using innovative visualization techniques. Overall, the number of jobs these fields of study exceeds the number of qualified candidates nationwide and in specifically in Northeastern Wisconsin. UW Oshkosh is proud to support the NEW IT Alliance and will continue to provide intellectually nibble and skilled people for the wide array of IT positions in the region.
