NEENAH, Wis. – The NEW IT Alliance is answering the call for a continually expanding technology workforce by connecting Northeast Wisconsin students with immediate and future employers. On November 14, 2018, the organization hosted its second annual regional IT job and career fair — NEW Connect IT! — at Lambeau Field. No other job or career fair provides students with this up-close look at IT careers and interactions with hundreds of IT professionals.

More than 500 students, 27 businesses and 6 colleges and universities came together to explore IT pathways, youth apprenticeships, internships and IT jobs.

“Students connected personally with recruiters from local companies who regularly hire technology talent,” said Rustin Keller, president and CEO of J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc., of Neenah, and chair of the NEW IT Alliance Executive Steering Committee. “They visited with local universities and technical schools to really look at the many IT-related degrees and educational tracks available to them.”

In addition to booths hosted by employers and schools, students had access to three breakout sessions:

  • Tech Marketplace – Exploring trend-bending companies leveraging robotics, virtual reality, or artificial intelligence.
  • Talent Café – Chatting with an app developer or a cybersecurity specialist to learn more about what IT professionals really do.
  • Gig Portal – Openings for tech jobs right now, right here in Northeast Wisconsin, with over 50 companies seeking passionate tech students to hire.

“The NEW IT Alliance goal is that by 2021, Northeast Wisconsin employers will have talented IT employees to meet or exceed their expectations,” said Keller. “We need web designers, product analysts, business analysts, security analysts, developers and system architects. We want to inspire these students to follow these exciting, well-paying careers and help them find the way to get there.”

About the NEW IT Alliance

The NEW IT Alliance is a nonprofit collaboration of companies, academic institutions and other organizations dedicated to inspiring people of all ages to pursue IT as a career pathway in Northeast Wisconsin. The organization was created as a result of local industry leaders voicing concern about a widening gap in the supply of technology talent. Since it began in 2015, the area has seen increased awareness of the IT shortage, increased collaboration between companies and educational institutions to close the gap, and development of new, innovative programs to connect and inspire students and professions to develop highly sought technology skills. www.newdigitalalliance.org
